In the Time Warner Cable Thursday Night Game of the Week, The Golden Lions defeated the South Point Red Raiders 24-0. This was the first time that South Point had been shutout since 1998, a streak of 264 games. For the third consecutive game, the Lions received the opening kickoff and scored on their first possession.
The Golden Lion offense totaled 462 yards ( 143 rushing, 319 passing). Malik Sarratt was 24 of 34 passing for 301 yards, 1 TD and 1 Interception. Jayden Borders had 11 receptions for 179 yards and 1 TD. Jayden now has 203 career receptions, the first player in Shelby history and Cleveland County history to have 200+ career receptions. Xavier Brooks has 17 rushing attempts for 114 yards and 1 TD, 5 receptions for 61 yards.
The Golden Lion defense limited South Point to 127 total yards of offense ( 101 rushing, 26 passing). Dax Hollifield led the charge with 13 total tackles and caused 2 Fumbles.. Michael Carson contributed 8 total tackles with 2 tackles for loss. Will Stites recovered 2 fumbles. Josh Smith caused a fumble and had 2 tipped passes. Damien Key and Aaron Jolly had 1 interception each.
Shelby will be back at home next Friday ( September 9th) to begin conference play vs the RS Central Hilltoppers.
