Shelby High School
The Golden Lions gained sole possession of first place in the South Mountain Athletic Conference by defeating the previously unbeaten Burns Bulldogs 35-7. The Golden lions have a bye next week and will return to action on October 28th vs Draughn.
Malik Sarratt was 12 of 20 passing for 295 yards and 4 TD’s. Devin Gullatte had 8 rushing attempts for 95 yards and 1 TD, 2 receptions for 94 yards. Jayden Borders had 3 receptions for 103 yards and 1 TD that went for 80 yards for the first score of the game. The Golden Lions led at the half 14-0. The Lions had 445 yards of total offense (150 rushing/295 passing).
The Golden Lion defense took everything the Bulldogs had and limited the bulldogs to only 7 points. The defense had a bend but don’t break demeanor in this game and the lions prevailed. The defense had 9 sacks and 17 tackles for loss.The bulldogs gained more yards than any team has accomplished on Shelby this season. Burns had 288 total yards of offense (178 rushing/110 passing). Dax Hollifield led the way with 11 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Michael Carson had 7 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Will Stites contributed 9 total tackles including 1 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Shaimez Poston had 7 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack.
