The Golden Lions opened the 2016 2AA playoffs with a convincing 55-7 victory over the North Surry Greyhounds of Mount Airy. Shelby has now won 16 consecutive playoff games. The Golden Lions improve to 12-0 on the season and will host Franklin next Friday in the 2nd round.

The offense started quickly and roared to a 35-0 halftime lead. Malik Sarratt went 9 of 11 passing for 177 yards and 3 TD passes and alos had 4 rushing attempts for 39 yards and 1 rushing TD, all in the first half. The Golden Lions would finish with 345 total yards (172 yards rushing/173 yards passing) on 32 total plays. Shelby only ran 8 plays in the 2nd half. Jayden Borders had 3 receptions for 85 yards and 2 TD’s. Isaiah Etchison had 2 receptions for 57 yards and also had a 58 yard punt return for a TD.

The defense held North Surry to only 121 total yards ( 7 rushing/114 passing). The defense had 3 interceptions on the night, 2 were returned for TD’s ( Jaylon Scott 34 yard return TD/ Aaron Jolly 28 yard return TD) Josh Smith also had an interception which he returned from Shelby’s 8 yard line to the North Surry 14 yard line (78 yard return). Dax Hollifield had 7 total tackles including 1 for loss. Isaac Greene had 5 total tackles including 1 for loss. Joslen McGill had 4 total tackles including 3 for loss and 1 1/2 sacks.
