Game Recap

The Golden Lions traveled to Belmont to face the South Point Red Raiders for the 2nd time this season. The 2nd round game proved to be an instant classic. In a back and forth contest, the Golden Lions prevailed 33-23 to advance to the 3rd round of the 2AA state playoffs.

The Golden Lions offense was led by seniors Malik Sarratt and Xavier Brooks. Sarratt was 14/22 passing for 248 yards and 1 TD. Brooks had 23 rushing attempts for 103 yards and 4 TD’s. The offense finished with 366 total yards (118 rushing/248 passing) and 16 first downs and zero turnovers.

The Golden Lions defense was led by Dax Hollifield and Dashaun Christopher. Hollifield finished with 16 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss, 1 sack, and 1 caused fumble. Christopher finished with 10 tackles, 1 caused fumble, and 1 fumble recovery. Jack Hollifield, Will Stites, and Rajah Kirkland each had 8 tackles. Jaylon Scott added 7 tackles including 1 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Shelby allowed 305 total yards (192 rushing/113 passing).

The Golden Lions will practice on Thanksgiving day for the 5th consecutive year. The Golden Lions will travel to Mount Pleasant next Friday to face the Tigers. The winner will play the Franklin/Hibriten winner in the 2AA Western Regional Finals on December 1st.
