Shelby High School
Hibriten High School
The Golden Lion’s quest for 5 consecutive state championships ended in heartbreak in Lenoir losing 19-7 to the Hibriten Panthers. The Golden Lions finished the season with 1 record of 12-3.
The Golden Lions received the opening kickoff and started their first series at their own 32 yard line. On the first play, Malik Sarratt connected with Xavier Brooks on a 68 yard pass and after a Chase Hendrick X-PT, Shelby led 7-0 but unfortunately that would be the Golden Lions only score of the game. The Golden Lions had 1 TD called back for a penalty and missed 2 field goal attempts. Malik Sarratt was 14/31 passing for 190 yards and 1 TD. With the TD pass, Sarratt set another score record for career TD passes (64). Xavier Brooks had 11 rushing attempts for 50 yards, 4 receptions for 101 yards and 1 TD. The TD allowed Brooks to tied the school record for most TD’s in a season (30). The Golden Lions had 238 yards of total offense (48 rushing/ 190 passing).
The defense was led by the linebackers. Dax Hollifield had 14 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and a 1/2 sack. Jaylon Scott had 10 total tackles including 4 tackles for loss and a blocked punt. Will Stites had 7 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss, a 1/2 sack, and a fumble recovery. Jack Hollifield had 9 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Dashaun Christopher had 9 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss. The defense allowed 297 yards of total offense (258 rushing/39 passing).
