Meet Recap

East Rutherford defeated Shelby in another close match 5-4. Singles winners were Sarah Lampley 2-1 (tiebreak) and Holly Hendrix. Both Lampley and Hendrix finished the season with 7-2 records in singles. double winners were Graves/Lampley and Hendrix/Ward. Graves/Lampley finished 6-2 overall, while Ward/Hendrix finished 4-3.The Lady Lions finished with a regular season mark of 4-5. they will be in conference tournament play next Wednesday and Thursday at East Burke.

Game Recap

The Golden Lions won their 35th consecutive game against 2A opponents. The Golden Lions led 42-0 at Halftime and with a running clock in the second half, the Lions won 49-9. The Golden Lions will celebrate homecoming next week vs East Rutherford at George Blanton memorial Stadium.

Shelby’s offense gained 354 total yards (99 rushing, 255 passing). Malik Sarratt was 20 of 32 passing for 247 yards and 4 TD passes. Jayden Borders had 6 receptions for 90 yards and 4 TD’s which set a new school record for most receiving TD’s in a single game. Darius Fuller added 6 receptions for 76 yards.

The defense was led by Dax Hollifield and Michael Carson, Hollifield finished with 10 total tackles including 5 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Hollifield broke the record for most career tackles, he now has 400 career tackles. Carson had 7 total tackles including 5 tackles for loss and 1/2 sack. CJ Ross had a 30 yards interception return for a TD. Jaylon Scott and Devin Gullatte also had interceptions. East Burke was held to 1 total yard of offense (-4 rushing, 5 passing).

East Burke defeated Shelby 5-4 in a hard fought match. Singles winners were Katie Wilson 2-0 and Holly Hendrix 2-1 (tiebreak.) Doubles winners were Graves/Lampley 8-5 and Hendrix/Ward 9-7. Exhibition winners were Byers/Dawkins, Blackburn/Queen and Nguyen/Petty. The Lady Lions finish regular season play Monday at East Rutherford.

Game Recap

The Golden Lions defeated the Mountaineers 39-9 in the annual, “Battle of Buffalo Creek.’ This series dates back to the 1920’s. The lions were led by QB Malik Sarrat who was 13 of 26 passing for 281 yards, 2 TD’s and added 2 rushing TD’s on the night. Isaiah Etchison had 5 receptions for 135 yards. Jayden Borders had 5 receptions for 103 yards. Darius Fuller and Maleek McMullens each had a receiving TD. The Golden Lions had 436 yards of total offense (114 rushing/322 passing). The offense only committed one turnover.

The Golden Lions defense held Kings Mountain to 149 total yards (57 rushing/92 passing). This is the 6th consecutive game that an opponent has been held to less than 200 yards of total offense. Shelby has allowed only 1 team this season to have 100+ rushing in a game this season ( game 2 vs South Point. 101 yards). The defense forced 3 turnovers on the night ( 2 fumbles and 1 Interception). Dax Hollifield led the way with 9 total tackles including 4 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Michael carson had 6 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss. Trey Darlington had 3 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Joslen McGill had 3 total tackles including 1 tackles for loss, 1 sack and recovered a fumble.

The Golden Lions will travel to Burke County next week to face the East Burke Cavaliers. The Lions have won 11 consecutive games dating back to last season’s playoffs.

Game Recap

The Golden Lions scored on their first possession and built a 28-3 halftime lead. The Lions rested most of the starters in the second half and defeated the Trojans 48-17.

Xavier Brooks had 15 rushing attempts for 108 yards and 3 TD’s. Malik Sarratt went 16/25 passing for 243 yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. The Golden Lions finished with 355 yards of total offense ( 98 rushing/ 257 passing).

The Golden Lion defense limited Chase to 72 total yards ( 32 rushing/ 40 passing) and only 5 first downs. Dax Hollifield had 9 total tackles including 5 tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks. Damion Key had 6 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss and blocked a punt which was returned for 15 yards by CJ Ross for a TD. Jaylon Scott also blocked a punt which was recovered by CJ Ross in the Endzone for a TD.

The Golden Lions ( 5-0, 2-0) will be at home next week (9-23-16) vs. the Kings Mountain Mountaineers in the Battle of Buffalo Creek.
