The Golden Lions hosted the West Lincoln Rebels in the 3rd round of the 2AA playoffs. This was the 2nd consecutive season that the two former conference foes met in the playoffs. The first half ended with a 21-7 lead by the Golden Lions. The Golden Lions would add 3 more scores in the 2nd half to defeat the Rebels 42-7 to advance to the 2AA Western Regional Championship Game. The Golden Lions will be playing in their 7th consecutive Western Regional Finals and their 9th Western Regional Finals in the last 10 seasons. The Golden Lions will host their conference and county rival, the Burns Bulldogs. This will be the first time in Cleveland County Football history that 2 county teams have met in a Western regional Finals. The winner will advance to the 2AA State Championship at Wake Forest University on December 14 against the winner of the Eastern Regional Championship Game between Randleman and Salisbury.
The Golden Lions offense had 484 yards of total offense (219 rushing/265 passing) and 20 first downs. The offensive line had another great game blocking and opening holes for the most rushing yards the Golden Lions have had in a game all season and allowing QB Isaiah Bess time to find his receivers. Bess went 16/25 passing for 265 yards and 2 TD’s. Ja’hari Mitchell had 43 yards rushing and 2 TD’s, 55 yards receiving and 1 TD. Diavonni Daley had 88 yards receiving and 1 TD. Donye Fuller had 16 rushing attempts for 100 yards and 2 TD’s and also added 53 yards receiving.
The Golden Lions defense allowed 210 total yards to the Rebels (166 rushing/44 passing) and only 7 first downs. Jack Hollifield had 16 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks. Malaki Hamrick had 6 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss. Nick Stites added 6 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss. Santanna Flack had 5 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss. Quavis Tate had 5 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss. Tyler Boyce had 5 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss and 1 sack.
