The Golden Lions hosted the AC Reynolds Rockets for the first home game of the season. The Rockets kicked a Field Goal on their first possession and briefly led 3-0. The lead for the Rockets would not last long as the Golden Lions scored on their first 4 possessions and added a defensive score to take a 31-21 lead at Halftime. The Golden Lions scored on 4 of their 6 second half possessions and the defense pitched a shutout in the 2nd half to defeat the Rockets 58-21 to improve to 2-0 on the season.
The Golden Lions offense had 450 yards of total offense (46 rushing & 404 passing). Isaiah Bess was 19/32 passing for 403 yards and 6 TD passes. Ja’hari Mitchell had an incredible game with 10 receptions for 261 yards and 5 TD’s and 86 kick return yards. Mitchell set a new school record with most receiving TD’s in a game.
The Golden Lions defense allowed 263 yards of total offense to the Rockets (52 rushing/ 211 passing). Dashaun Christopher had a busy night, finishing with 16 total tackles. Christopher also punted twice for 83 yards, an average of 41.5 yards per kick. Maliki Hamrick had 10 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and a sack. Jack Hollifield had 8 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Three Golden Lions defenders had interceptions, Nick Stites, Tyler Arrington, and Diavonni Daley. All 3 interceptions were converted into touchdowns for the Lions.
The Golden Lions have an open date on September 6 and will return to action on September 13 and will host county rival Crest Chargers.
