The Golden Lions defeated the Ashe County Huskies 45-26 to set a school record for winning 27 consecutive home games, a streak that began in the first round of the 2015 playoffs. The Golden Lions advance to the 3rd round of the 2AA playoffs and will host the North Lincoln Knights on November 30th at George Blanton Memorial Stadium.
The Huskies took the opening kickoff and scored on their 1st possession to take an early 7-0 lead. The Golden Lions would answer back with 45 unanswered points to take a 45-26 victory. The Golden Lions (10-3) have now won 9 consecutive games since beginning the season at 1-3.
The Golden Lion offense used a balanced attack to finish with 308 total yards (149 rushing/159 passing) and 16 first downs. Isaiah Bess was 17/25 passing for 159 yards and 3 TD’s. Donye Fuller had 13 rushing attempts for 89 yards. Tavoris Scott added 8 rushing attempts for 34 yards and 1 TD. Kamarde Huskey had 7 receptions for 75 yards and 1 TD. Jahari Mitchell had a TD reception and a 52 yard punt return for a TD.
The Golden Lion defense allowed 268 yards of total offense (65 rushing/203 passing). Dashaun Christopher had another strong game, finishing with 9 total tackles and had 2 interceptions for the 2nd straight game and now has 6 interception for the season. Dorian Davis added his 5th interception for the season with a 30 yard return for a TD. Nick Stites had 11 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss and 1 sack. Tre’ Jolly had 6 total tackles including 4 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. Maliki Hamrick had 6 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 2 sacks. The defense totaled 14 tackles for loss and 8 sacks for the game.
