The Golden Lions hosted county rival Burns Bulldogs in a key conference matchup. Both teams entered the contest 3-0 in conference play. In a game marred by a total of 29 penalties that were accepted and a few that were declined or offsetting penalties, the Golden Lions prevailed 26-13 to take over sole possession in the South Mountain Athletic Conference. The Golden have a bye week next Friday and will return to action on November 1st and will host the East Rutherford Cavaliers. The Bulldogs will travel to Mount Holly to face the East Gaston Warriors.
The Golden Lions offense had 357 yards of total offense (139 rushing/218 passing) and 17 first downs. Isaiah Bess was 14/22 passing for 218 yards, 1 Td, and 1 INT. Diavonni Daley had 7 receptions for 139 yards and 1 TD. Omar Phillips had 16 rushing attempts for 98 yards and 2 TD’s. Donye Fuller added 53 yards on the ground and 1 TD.
The Golden Lion defense allowed 223 yards of offense to the Bulldogs (188 rushing/35 passing). Nick Stites had 12 total tackles. Malaki Hamrick had 8 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and a fumble recovery. Dashaun Christopher had 9 total tackles including 1 tackles for loss and a caused fumble. Jack Hollifield had 8 total tackles and a fumble recovery.
