The Golden Lions defeated the West Lincoln Rebels 27-8 in the 1st round of the 2018 2AA State Playoffs. The Golden Lions won a 1st round playoff game for the 24th consecutive year. The Golden Lions tied a school record by winning their 25th consecutive home game, dating back to the 2015 season. The Golden Lions improve to 9-3 and currently have an 8 game winning streak. Shelby advances to the 2nd round and will host Ashe County on November 23rd.

The Golden Lions finished with 298 total offensive yards (37 rushing/261 passing) and 15 1st downs. Isaiah Bess went 10/32 passing for 261 yards and 2 TD’s. Kamarde Huskey had 5 receptions for 116 yards and 1 TD. Jahari Mitchell had 7 receptions for 90 yards and 1 TD. Donye Fuller had 9 rushing attempts for 51 yards and 4 receptions for 33 yards.

The Golden Lion defense allowed 251 yards of offense, all by rushing. Nick Stites led the way with 15 total tackles. Dashaun Christopher added 10 total tackles, including 1 tackle for loss, 2 interceptions and returning 1 INT 90 yards for a TD. Jaylon Scott added 8 total tackles. Jack Hollifield had 7 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss and a fumble recovery. Johntavius Kee added 6 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss.
