The Golden Lions lost a close game to the AC Reynolds Rockets by a score of 17-14. The Golden Lions missed a potential game tying Field Goal with less than 5 seconds remaining in the game. The Rocket scored the game winning TD with less than 2 minutes remaining in the game. The 1st half ended tied at zero. Both teams had less than 100 yards of offense in the 1st half. The Golden Lions led 7-0 after 3 quarters. AC Reynolds scored 19 unanswered points in the 4th quarter to take the lead 10-7 but the Golden Lions answered back with Nijahi Odom scoring his 2nd TD of the game for a 14-10 lead.
Shelby’s Isaiah Bess completed 27 out of 43 passes for 277 yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. Nijahi Odom had 6 receptions for 91 yards and 2 TD’s. Diovanni Daley also had 6 receptions for 75 yards. The Golden Lions were held to negative rushing yards and finished with 244 yards of total offense and 14 first downs.
The Golden Lion defense was lead by Linebackers Jack Hollifield and Nick Stites. Hollifield finished with 17 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss and 1 1/2 sacks. Stites finished with 15 total tackles. The Golden Lions allowed 253 total yards (104 rushing/149 passing) and 10 first downs.
The Golden Lions will travel to Lawndale next Friday (8/31) to face their county rival, the Burns Bulldogs.
