A one point game at halftime turned into a double digit victory for the Golden Lions as they defeat the South Point Red Raiders 41-25 to win the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship and continue their winning streak at 7 games. The Golden Lions have now won 25 consecutive home game, dating back to 2015. Both teams finish the regular season at 8-3 and will now wait for the playoff seedings to be released November 10th.
The Red Raiders scored on their first 2 possessions and taking an early 12-0 lead before the Golden Lion offense got on track and outscored the Red Raiders 41-13 for the remainder of the game. The Golden Lion offense finished with 404 yards of total offense (91 rushing/313 passing) as Isaiah Bess led the way with 313 yards on 17 completions out of 30 attempts, 4 TD’s and zero interceptions. Bess also added a rushing TD. The Golden Lions did not commit a turnover in the game. Diovanni Daley had 4 receptions for 131 yards and 1 TD. Donye Fuller had 14 rushing attempts for 93 yards and 2 receptions for 37 yards and 1 TD. After South Point scored in the 4th quarter to cut the deficit to 2 points at 27-25, Fabian Pettis returned the kickoff 95 yards for a TD which increased Shelby’s lead to 9 points. The Golden Lion offensive line continued their impressive play allowing Bess plenty of time to connect with his receivers. The offensive only had 4 negative plays.
The Golden Lion defensive allowed 335 yards of total offense (285 rushing/50 passing) but held the South Point offense when needed. Dashaun Christopher stepped up from his safety position to record 10 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Dorian Davis added 8 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss. Jack Hollifield had 11 total tackles.
