The Golden Lions traveled to Mount Holly to face the East Gaston Warriors in the conference opener for both teams. The punted on their first possession but scored on their next 4 possessions along with a punt return for a TD to take a 34-0 lead at Halftime. A running clocked was used in the 2nd half as the Golden Lions added 2 more TD’s including another punt return and a safety to take a 50-0 victory over the Warriors. The Warriors were shutout for the 2nd consecutive season by the Lions. The Golden Lions return home next week for another conference contest against the RS Central Hilltoppers.
The Golden Lions had 270 yards of total offense (142 rushing/128 passing). Isaiah Bess completed 7 of 14 passes with 1 TD pass. Bess continued his streak of passing for at least 1 TD in every game he started for the Lions, 21 games. Donye Fuller had 70 yards rushing and 1 TD and 43 yards receiving. Bess, Omar Phillips, and Laz Welch had rushing TD’s. Diavonni Daley had 4 receptions for 61 yards and 1 TD. Kamarde Huskey had 2 punt return TD’s, 48 & 55 yards.
The Golden Lions defense held the Warriors to 14 yards of total offense (6 rushing/8 passing). Malaki Hamrick had 11 total tackles including 5 tackles for loss and 2 1/2 sacks and a blocked punt. Jack Hollifield also had 11 total tackles including 3 tackles for loss. Jimmy Whisnant added 3 tackles for loss. Nick Stites had 6 total tackles. Quavis Tate had 7 total tackles. Tyler Arrington had 1 interception, his 3rd of the season.
