The Golden Lions celebrated Homecoming by defeating the East Gaston Warriors 49-0. The Golden Lions jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and led 35-0 at halftime. The Golden Lions will travel to East Rutherford next week to face the Cavaliers in a key conference matchup. The Golden Lions have won 5 straight since beginning the season 1-3. The 1968 WNCHSAA Championship Team was recognized at the end of the 1st quarter. The 1968 team was the first team at Shelby to win a state championship.
The offense was led by Isaiah Bess who was 13/19 passing for 287 yards and 4 TD’s. Jecalon Shell was 5/6 passing for 96 yards and 1 TD. Donye Fuller added 83 yards rushing and 2 TD’s. Kamarde Huskey had 5 receptions for 77 yards and 1 TD. Fabian Pettis had 3 receptions for 93 yards and 1 TD. Santanna Eaves had 3 receptions for 87 yards and 1 TD. The Golden Lions had 597 yards of total offense (192 rushing/405 passing) and 21 first downs.
The Defense allowed only 58 yards of total offense, all on the ground. For the 2nd week in a row, the defense did not allow any passing yards. Nick Stites led the way with 9 total tackles. Jack Hollifield had 7 total tackles including 2 tackles for loss and 1 sack. Maliki Hamrick had 5 total tackles including 1 tackle for loss and 1 sack.
