Isaiah Bess made his debut as starting QB and did not disappoint. Bess finished 26/38 for 370 yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. Bess passed for more yards in his 1st start than any other QB in Shelby history. His 370 yards is the 5th highest total in a single game for a Shelby QB. Bess also had 8 rushing attempts for 17 yards and 1 TD. Bess completed passes to 8 different receivers. Jahari Mitchell made a big impact in his Shelby debut, catching 8 passes for 169 yards and 2 TD’s. Mitchell’s 169 yard effort is the 5th highest total in a single game in Shelby history. George Dunlap added the other Shelby TD. The Golden Lion offense finished with 452 total yards (370 passing/82 rushing) and 19 1st downs.
The Golden Lion defense was lead by Jack Hollifield who finished with 9 tackles. Dashaun Christopher also added 9 tackles. The defense limited Freedom to 213 total yards (55 rushing/158 passing) and 13 first downs.
The Golden Lions will travel to Asheville next Friday (8/24) to face the AC Reynolds Rockets.
